As a German qualified lawyer, a former member of the Paris Bar and a legal counsel, having practised as a sole practitioner, in boutique law firms, in international law firms as well as on the client-side as in-house (e.g., International Legal Affairs Director of a major construction company), Kaya provides of more than 20 years of practice in the international legal business. Kaya has gained a wealth of experience from different industries including Automotive, Aviation, Banking & Finance, Construction, Energy, Health, Logistics, Media, Mining, Real Estate, Retail, Sports, and Tourism, and advised his clients in a variety of legal fields, such as Corporate Governance, Cross-border Transactions, Corporate and Commercial Law, Merger & Acquisition, Construction Law (large PPP infrastructure projects, mainly in Africa), International Contracts, FDIs, Renewable Energy Law and Media & IP Law. Work included projects in Germany, France, Switzerland, Turkey, the Middle East, the US and Africa. In his capacity as Director International Legal Affairs, he was responsible among others for the negotiations of construction contracts for large-scale infrastructure projects (EPC, BOO, BOT, e.g., hydroelectric power plants) with heads of states, ministries and other governmental bodies. His experience includes a variety of tasks such as drafting and negotiating of royalty agreements as a Legal Director of a mining company as well as the acquisition and management of a professional Swiss football club (joint-stock company) where he served as a board member.
Kaya advises domestic and foreign clients on various aspects of German, European and international business law. In addition, he focuses on advising media companies (OTT service providers) on public policy and regulatory issues, compliance and IP law. Another interest of Kaya are future-relevant topics (energy, water, environmental protection, AI and automation) and in particular hydrogen as an energy source and energy carrier. Besides, he is actively engaged as co-founder, chairman and member of the board in numerous non-government organizations.
As Of Counsel and International Partner, Kaya brings to Koç Attorneys his years of international experience in legal consulting, management, public policy, strategy, and cultural diplomacy coupled with a passion for people, cultures and languages.
He commutes between Berlin and Istanbul.
